Wednesdays Foundational Series: Principles into Practice
w/ Alicia Grayson 5:00 - 7:00 PM September 9 - November 18 11 week session at the Boulder Circus Center Open to All
The beginner series is for those new to the form and for those who prefer moving at a slower place to deepen their embodiment of the fundamentals. This class focuses on exploring foundational principles of the form. We will nurture physical, perceptual and communication skills so new possibilities of creative connection and expression can emerge through CI.
Specific principles we will put into practice:
Listening: to self, other and the environment and the co-creativity that emerges
Grounding: knowing where the earth is at all times, through our own and partner’s body
Rebounding: experiencing levity and spacial support and with that expanding choice
Improvising: not planning and saying yes to the moment that is unfolding
Integrating: Developing whole body awareness so our bodies’ intelligence is available moment to moment
Communicating: honoring our yes’s and no’s as a way to authentically open to the flow of the improvisation
$320 for whole series pd by September 1st $340 for whole series pd after September 1st $297 for any 9 of the 11 classes $37 drop in

FALL 2026 CLASS SERIES
Tuesday Intermediate Series: Fostering New Pathways: Evolutionary and Developmental Movement and Contact Improvisation
w/ Alicia Grayson & Gwen Ritchie 5:00 - 7:00 PM September 8 - November 17 11 week session at the Boulder Circus Center Designed for those with a solid embodied understanding of CI foundational principles. Permission from instructors required
Trace the arc of movement from single-celled aquatic organisms to upright terrestrial humans while bridging our personal experience from in utero floating to adult locomotion. This class series maps developmental and evolutionary movement patterns and integrates them into Contact Improvisation.
By reconnecting with our early individual and evolutionary history, we uncover new pathways for expression, fluidity, and ease in our contact improvisation explorations.
Key Exploration Areas:
From Water to Land: Move from the watery, weightless environment of in utero to the gravity defined experience of life on earth, exploring patterns such as breathing, floating, rolling, crawling, jumping, climbing, inverting and flying.
Embodied Archetypes: Draw structural and movement inspiration from early marine life to starfish, frogs, lizards, gibbons, and a variety of living forms to diversify our movement vocabulary.
Relational Connection: Discover how evolutionary movement patterns reshape our physical connection to gravity, space, and our dance partners.
Expect a rich blend of somatics, physical research, and contact improvisation. We will journey back into our earliest movement stories to awaken dormant options, reconnect with the natural world, expand our expressivity, and bring a grounded, deeply integrated presence to our dancing.
